Personally, I'd say it was right up there with the strongest episodes of my two favorite shows from last year, Hannibal (NBC) and Utopia (UK's Channel 4).
I plan on checking out another episode or two. If I gave Almost Human that long to find its footing, it would be a crime to not to do the same for a real science fiction show.
The opportunity to keep the film grounded in the neo-noir stylings that make the first two-thirds of the film work so well is simply tossed out the window in an inexplicable shift in tone and attitude that does absolutely nothing positive.
