As much as I missed seeing some great swordplay or a violent brawl, we were instead treated to some very interesting character development and some pretty good storytelling.
This has been a very promising start to the new series as everything that was shown to me in POTC has been washed away by this broody and gritty new approach.
Personally, I'd say it was right up there with the strongest episodes of my two favorite shows from last year, Hannibal (NBC) and Utopia (UK's Channel 4).
