Shawn Hill knows two things: comics and art history. Somehow that led to him writing the Harvey Kurtzman entry for Icons of the American Comic Book: from Captain America to Wonder Woman (2013). He also writes art criticism and is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA), an NGO of UNESCO.
Ah, here’s that feeling again. That feeling that usually comes in the first third of a season (here not until after the halfway point) of things clicking into place.
All the titles this season are quotes from past episodes, by the way, which sort of lets you know how the show is going about nailing its final season.
The rest of the episode was slightly better, because it focused on the one romantic bright spot of recent seasons, the surprisingly hot love affair between Bonnie and Enzo.
The symphony of sadness that has characterized this season continues in the finale, turning up the dire consequences of every decision made into a crescendo of loss, missed connections and despair.
Some good decisions, mostly to reinvest thoughtfully in references to season one (even as the tone has markedly changed for season two) pay off this week.
