After living a double life for years, Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) reveals her true identity in a bold move to exonerate her dead ex, Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman). The news shocks Hamptonites and jeopardizes the future of her current boyfriend, Detective Ben Hunter (Brian Hallisay). That could mean trouble in paradise for the cute couple–and an opportunity for Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler) to swoop in and steal Emily once and for all.
The entire show builds up to Emily’s big announcement which creates a ripple effect, hitting all the people in her life in different ways. As for Jack and her father, they’re just proud of Emily for revealing her true self. Even sworn enemies, Margaux (Karine Vanasse) and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) are delighted by Emily’s announcement, since it cleared the name of their shared love, Daniel Grayson.
We’ve been waiting for this announcement ever since the final mission in Emily’s revenge plot. And it’s awesome. Now Emily is post-revenge, pro-love, but who will she love, Ben or Jack?
Unlike Jack, Detective Ben, is pretty damn upset. Ben and Emily have been rocky from the start Emily has PTSD and is mourning the loss of TWO ex-boyfriends. But, Emily admitting she perjured herself in one of Ben’s cases–might be a dealbreaker. Not only did Emily betray Ben by lying, she also blew off his promotion party. Ouch.
Honestly though, who would want to shoot tequila in a bar with a bunch of cops anyway? And I know Ben means well, but since he’s dating someone with PTSD, shouldn’t he at least Google the term? His girlfriend has been through incredible trauma, yet he expects her to throw on heels and “meet the guys.” Let’s just hope that now he’s a detective, he’ll pick up on her sociopathic aversion to commitment. At least before he falls head over heals in love.
After losing the love of her life, Emily spent months conditioning herself not to love. At the mere thought of meeting boyfriend’s friends and his brother, Emily rages on a punching bag and yells at Ben. I think Ben has to notice something eventually–this relationship is going to crack. It’s clear he’s worried when Emily blows him off and runs into the arms of Jack.
Yay for Jack. But Emily and Jack’s romantic moment won’t stay a secret for long. Ben catches a glimpse of the bar TV just in time to see his girlfriend holding hands with… his ex-partner? Shit. Ben’s crushed. What will he say to her? So much for that promotion party.
I’m sure Ben will be fine–he’s too pretty to worry about, anyway. I’m just glad Jack’s finally happy. He’s allowed both David and Amanda Clarke back into his life and it reminds us of simpler times they shared years ago on this same Hampton beach.
And maybe it’s the happiness and confidence Jack exudes that finally catches Emily’s attention. Could she have feelings for Jack? She’s always loved him as a friend, but could he be more? I hope so. I like to think they are soul mates. Because I’m an adult.
In the end, this is one hell of an episode. Revenge fans finally get the news we’ve been waiting for. Episodes like this remind me why I love the show–it still has that shock and awe factor.
I’m still stunned that Emily Thorne finally said the words, “I’m Amanda Clarke. I’m David Clark’s daughter.” We’ve been waiting years to hear that and the end leaves us wanting more. How will Amanda Clarke start her life anew? Will her story include Ben or Jack?
